The ABCs of New York Snowmobile Insurance

The weather outside is frightful…to some. Leave the snowmen and cocoa to the kiddies–the trails are calling. According to Nysurance experts eighty percent of snowmobilers use their snowmobile for trail riding and tours. Additionally, there are over three thousand snowmobile clubs around the world, so just when you start to consider your family’s concern that you ‘re crazy for your snowy adventures, just know there are others out there like you. The avid snowmobile owner knows to be prepared for anything that can happen out there. One way to be prepared for the worst is to get yourself set up with New York Snowmobile Insurance.

After setting yourself up with some insurance, we have some safety tips to keep your ride as safe and fun as possible.

            1. It is important to know the legal side of things. Make sure you are aware of any laws which might affect you. Not all states will allow you to ride on the road, and some won’t even let you drive in the ditch, and there is no way you want to get caught up while cruising the snow.

            2. Stay smart, stay sober! Not only can you be ticketed and spend time in jail if caught cruising under the influence, your body while intoxicated, operates through delayed response, and can give someone the perception that they are much warmer than they are, leading to an increased risk of hypothermia.

            3. Accessorize! Whether required by law or not, always wear a safety helmet, dress in layers, and remember a windproof outer layer in order to reduce the chances of frostbite.

            4. Be prepared for the worst. Even the pros have accidents sometimes, therefore you should always come equipped with a first aid kit, flashlight, knife, batteries, flares, food, you get it. Always double-check before leaving home.

            5. Make sure to keep your snowmobile checked up on by a mechanic on a regular basis. Nothing can spell disaster like a malfunctioning vehicle.

            6. Going stag might be fun if you’re heading out for a drink, but never snowmobiling. Remember, there are three thousand clubs out there, you can find a buddy. Even with a buddy, make sure that someone knows about your outing, where you’re going, and when you expect to return.

            7. Be aware–Always check the weather before any outing to ensure you are as prepared as you can be. Remember that snowmobiling in the dark poses additional dangers, and know the area you’re going into, to avoid any nasty suprises.

            8. Keep your thinking cap on! If it is legal for you to be on the roads, and the conditions are ameanable, it’s a good possibility that cars may not fair as well as you. Also, don’t forget signals, lights, and don’t do anything drastic.
