Drinking and Driving

Drinking and Driving

Find out what the average person on the road thinks is one to many to be behind the wheel.

It is impossible to deny that driving while under the influence of alcohol is extremely dangerous. Choosing to drive your car while inebriated will not only put you and those around you in immediate physical danger, but you are at risk of suffering severe legal consequences if you are caught by the police.

New York Car Insurance wants drivers to know that they are subject to stiff laws and penalties if they choose to drive drunk. Thanks to the NYS STOP-DWI law, police officers are better equipped to target and remove more alcohol-impaired drivers from the roads and additionally, prosecution of offenders has become more successful than ever. New York State takes DWI very seriously and should you be arrested and convicted of this offense, any or all of the following consequences may occur:

  • Revocation or restriction of your driving privileges.
  • You may be responsible for costly court fees and fines as well as expensive attorney’s fees.
  • You may receive NYS probation or be required to perform community service.
  • You may be sentenced to jail or to state prison.
  • Your vehicle may be impounded or electronically monitored by authorities.

If that is not enough to deter you from getting behind the wheel after you have been drinking, consider all the other possible ramifications that a DWI has. If convicted, your record will be permanently marked. It is also possible that you may lose employment, be denied future employment, be denied insurance coverage or at the very least, suffer a significant rise in premiums. Driving while intoxicated is definitely not worth the risk.
It is estimated that a third of all car accidents in NYS are related to alcohol impairment and that approximately every forty-five minutes, someone is killed as a result of a DWI. One bad choice could negatively affect your life and the lives of those around you forever. New York Car Insurance wants you to take DWI as seriously as the State of New York does. No acceptations, no excuses – NEVER get behind the wheel of a car once you have been drinking.
