New York Auto Insurance suggests that you prepare an emergency roadside car kit to keep in your vehicle in case you are ever caught in this unfortunate situation. Whether you are traveling a short distance or headed out for an extended road trip, having an emergency kit handy may make all the difference should you blow a tire at 2 am on a back country road.
The following items should be included in your basic emergency roadside car kit:

  • Flares and fuses
  • Flashlight with extra batteries

  • First aid kit
  • Basic tools such as pliers, wire cutters, screwdrivers and a pocket knife
  • Tire inflator
  • An old blanket and/or rags
  • Materials to make a help sign, including pen and paper.

A more detailed kit may include all of the above plus:
